Clear and invisible orthodontics is a rapidly growing branch of orthodontics. It uses tough, clear plastic ‘aligners’ to straighten teeth. The patient of provided with several sets of specially moulded, clear plastic aligners custom made for each patient. Each set is worn for two weeks before being replaced with the next one. Since they are made from clear plastic, they are practically invisible.
The aligners should be worn for 22 to 23 hours a day. They can be easily removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and for cleaning teeth. Clear aligners can be used once the patient has reached 18 years of age. They might not be suitable for all cases and can correct mild to medium cases. In severe cases, clear braces and lingual braces might be the only options.
